Applying a weather sealer with UV protection (most semi transparent or solid color stains), to your new wood fence will greatly help in prevent the aging process and add years to the life to the wood.
If you are looking for a specific color, then staining (with a solid color stain) may be your best option. Avoid painting (for wood fences) as paint will continue to peel and chip, and will require the greatest maintenance over time.
